And So It Begins

Personal Blog - Welcome to my new blogging website. I built this site because I thought it was about time I started my own blog. I always have something I want to rant or rave about but no platform on which to say it, well not counting forums and message boards on the internet. But now I have this blog, and, well, everyone seems to have a blog these days, and I started to feel a bit left out.

Yet Another Blog

I also built this site as a way to learn coding with ASP.NET. I'm a software developer with experience in Java and VB, and wanted to move over to .NET. It’s still not quite finished as I write this, there are still a number of features I need to implement. Most importantly there is no content management system in place so all updates are via SQL statements (yuck).

This site also showcases some of my software development work (mainly websites), you can also find out more about how this website was built.

Some features you can check out include the user poll on the right on this text. You can also post comments for each blog, and do a search for blogs (even though there’s only one blog to search at time of writing). Don’t forget to add the RSS feed to your reader.

A bit about me

My name is Dominic James Pettifer. I'm a software engineer (computer programmer in layman's terms, SE sounds cooler), specialising in web applications. I've built, or helped build, web applications in ASP 3.0, Java Servlets/JSP and now in .NET (using C#).

I have a degree in Computing at the University of Abertay Dundee, and am currently studying for a masters in Software Engineering at the same university. I should hopefully be finished up and in fulltime employment in the next month or so. I'll keep you updated here.

Find more information in the about me section or take a look at my CV.

The future

Hopefully time permitting you should see some more blogs on here. They will probably mainly be technical articles related to software development, with a significant slant towards .NET matters.

I'm also working on an Ajax powered web based chat room take I'll put on this site (related to my masters dissertation) sometime soon, so you can all come and have a chat with each other.

See you soon!
